Solidago is celebrated for its authentic beauty.  Variations in weave and shading give each rug a distinctive character, making it truly unique. What you won’t find is a “perfect” hand crafted rug, and that’s part of their charm.

Here’s what to expect with custom area rugs:

  • Individually crafted: Every rug is custom fabricated in the United States by skilled craftsmen and women.
  • Natural variations: Cuts follow the valley of the ribs and buried threads, which means rugs may be slightly out of square due to the natural imperfections of the roll.
  • Irregular edges: Edges may not be perfectly straight.
  • Material differences: Some fibers have more bowing or skewing than others. Rugs made from these materials are cut as square as possible and may require “jumping ribs.” This is not a fabrication error.
  • Pattern orientation: Depending on rug size and material, patterns may run horizontally or vertically.
  • Handling tips: Never pull rugs by the edge.
  • Shipping wrinkles: Like any textile, rolling and shipping can cause wrinkles. Simply unwrap and allow the rug to relax for best results.
  • Color variance: Natural fibers vary in color. Showroom samples may not match current inventory exactly.
  • Size tolerance: Large rugs can weigh up to 400 pounds, making precise handling challenging. Requested dimensions may vary by ± ½ inch.

These characteristics are not flaws—they’re the hallmarks of natural fiber craftsmanship, adding depth and individuality to your home.

Shedding of Loose Fibers

Shedding is completely normal—it’s a natural result of the process used to create wool rugs. During production, rugs go through a combing process to remove short and broken fibers. However, some of these fibers settle on the surface of the pile and appear as “fluff.” This effect can vary depending on the material type, but rest assured, the excess fiber represents only a tiny fraction of the total fiber in your rug.

Shedding is common with hand-tufted rugs, and while every effort is made to minimize it, it’s impossible to eliminate entirely. Regular vacuuming and proper care will help reduce shedding over time, allowing your rug to maintain its beauty and integrity.
